About The Wheelhouse

The Wheelhouse is a specialized, four-bedroom residential home that provides an exceptionally warm and intimate environment for up to four adults with learning disabilities and autism spectrum disorder. Designed over two floors, the house offers a beautifully homely atmosphere, featuring spacious private bedrooms decorated to each resident's personal taste, alongside inviting communal spaces. Among our wonderful amenities is a large, secure garden complete with a dedicated cabin where residents love to relax and listen to music. Located within easy reach of exciting local and regional attractions, our residents are regularly supported to enjoy a rich variety of community activities, ranging from local swimming and horse-riding to memorable day trips to the zoo and London.

Our home is defined by a culture of choice, empowerment, and genuine affection, where residents are encouraged to live a fulfilling life with maximum independence. Visitors and families often describe the atmosphere at The Wheelhouse as having an infectious sense of love and mutual respect between our residents and staff. Led by a highly supportive registered manager and deputy manager, our team works collaboratively to ensure that every individual feels safe, included, and valued. We place a deep emphasis on listening to the people we support, observing their unique communication styles to ensure their preferences are always met, which creates a truly relaxed and joyful environment for your loved one.

The care at The Wheelhouse is completely person-centered and delivered by a team with advanced, specialized training in autism, positive behavior support (PBS), and epilepsy. We work hand-in-hand with external health and social care professionals to proactively monitor and champion each resident’s physical and mental well-being, including maintaining the highest standards of medication safety and robust risk management. As Next of Kin, you are viewed as an essential partner in our care community, meaning you are always kept fully informed and closely involved in your family member’s journey. You can have total peace of mind knowing your loved one is in safe, compassionate, and expert hands.
